Metin2 Beginners Guide
Von Metin2-Toplist Redaktion ·
New to Metin2 private servers and not sure where to start? This guide explains everything you need to know as a beginner – from choosing the right server to your first hours in the game.
What is a Metin2 P Server?
A Metin2 P Server (short for private server) is an unofficial game server operated independently from Gameforge. Private server operators use publicly available server files and host the game themselves – usually free to play and without Pay-to-Win mechanics.
Unlike the official Metin2, P Servers often feature custom experience rates, unique events, individual items, and gameplay changes tailored to specific playstyles. Many players prefer P Servers because they offer more freedom, a stronger community feel, and often a fairer economy.
Metin2 P Servers have been part of the community since 2006 and have grown into their own scene. Today there are hundreds of active projects in different styles and languages – from German Oldschool servers to international Newschool projects with thousands of players.
The 5 Server Types Explained
Oldschool (OS): Max level 55–120, slow progression, scarce items, strong PvP. These servers are closest to the original Metin2 feeling. Ideal for players who enjoy classic challenges and long-term gameplay.
Middleschool (MS): Max level 100–150, balanced mix of fast progression and classic gameplay. Good for beginners because you don't have to grind forever, but there are still long-term goals to work toward.
Newschool (NS): Max level 150+, fast progression, modern features, frequent events. The focus is on activity and entertainment – perfect for players who want to dive into the content quickly.
PvP Server: Player vs Player is the main focus. These servers feature arena systems, tournaments, and combat-focused balancing. Great for competitive players.
PvM Server: Player vs Monster is the priority. Dungeons, boss fights, and PvE content take center stage. Perfect for players who prefer cooperating rather than competing.
How to Find the Right Metin2 Server
Metin2-Toplist lists hundreds of active P Servers daily, ranked by real player votes. The ranking shows you which servers are currently the most active – without any payment. No server can buy its way to the top, every vote counts equally.
Filter by the server type that suits your playstyle and pay attention to the launch date. New servers (under 30 days old) mean all players start at the same time – no one has a big head start. This is ideal for beginners who don't want to be left behind.
Check the server's Discord before you commit. An active Discord with hundreds of members is a reliable sign of a lively community. Avoid servers with no visible operator, no legal notice, or exaggerated promises like "Max level in one hour".
Downloading and Installing the Client – Step by Step
Step 1 – Go to the official site: Always navigate directly to the server's own website. Never download from third-party sites, forums, or via Google search – only from the official server website.
Step 2 – Download the client: Download the full client (usually 1–5 GB). Some servers also offer a patcher that only downloads the differences from the base client, saving you time and bandwidth.
Step 3 – Scan the file: Scan the downloaded file with your antivirus program (Windows Defender is fine). Legitimate servers have nothing to hide in their files.
Step 4 – Create your account: Register your account on the server's website – not inside the game itself. On almost all P Servers, registration is done online through the server's web portal.
Step 5 – Launch the game: Start the launcher or metin2client.exe and log in with your credentials. On your first login, choose your kingdom and class – and you're ready to go.
Character Classes Overview
Metin2 has 5 base classes: Warrior (tanky, good at melee combat), Ninja (fast, archer or assassin playstyle), Sura (melee mage, high damage), Shaman (support or magic damage), and Lykan (shapeshifter, strong in PvE). On many P Servers, classes are customized or completely redesigned.
As a beginner, the Warrior is recommended – it's forgiving, durable, and works in most playstyles. The Ninja is a good second choice if you prefer ranged combat.
First Steps and Key Tips
Take your time with the first quests – they introduce you to the core mechanics and reward you with starter gear. Most P Servers have tutorial rewards that give you a head start in the early game.
Join the server's Discord. You'll get quick help from other players, find out about upcoming events, and meet teammates for dungeons and guilds.
Use the vote system on metin2-toplist.com – many servers reward you daily for your vote with Yang, items, or EXP bonuses. This is one of the easiest ways to progress without spending real money.
Check the server's shop before you start playing. If items sold there cannot be earned in-game, that's Pay-to-Win. Good servers only offer cosmetic items or minor convenience bonuses in their shops.
Common Beginner Mistakes
Downloading the client from unknown sources: Always download only from the official server website. Downloads from forums or via Google can contain viruses or keyloggers.
Using the same password as your email: Use a separate, secure password for each P Server. If a server gets hacked, all your accounts could be compromised.
Sticking with the first server even if it's not a good fit: Feel free to try multiple servers. Each project has a different feel and community – it's worth testing a few to find the right one.
Buying items on external marketplaces: This usually violates server rules and can result in an account ban. Only buy items through official server channels.
